Synopsis
The Managing Editor, working as part of the senior editorial team, assists the editorial department, art department, fashion and beauty department and promotions department in ensuring deadlines are met and budgets are adhered to. When time allows, the Managing Editor helps with editing copy and getting pages ready for publication.

Minimum Requirements

  • Incumbent should have 3-5 years’ experience in a magazine and at least one year in a managerial role
  • Understanding of repro and print process in a magazine
  • Attention to details
  • Ability to handle stress
  • Conflict management and ability to liaise with people on different levels
  • Experience in dealing with agents, photographers
  • Syndication background is an added benefit

Responsibilities

  • Supports the editor in the execution of her role
  • Manages Cape Town office
  • Manages production schedule for main book
  • Creates and manages flatplan
  • Manages procurement of covers with picture editor
  • Works closely with the Company's manager to ensure production deadlines are met and adhered to
  • Responsible for budgets / team management / responsible for ensuing best profitable management of MC content
  • Responsible for all special  projects
  • Content liaison with BDM
  • Supports BDM from a content pov
  • Ensures that all MC's projects are given 360 attention
  • Strategises, plans and implements content that leads to brand enhancement and profit through day to day production and new projects
  • Works closely with the Editor, BDM and Assistant Editor - Content to brainstorm, pitch and oversee the execution of concepts for supplements, special projects, new business opportunities – to maximise commercial opportunities - across all platforms, including video
  • Liaison with marketing
  • Manage and monitor budgets across all platforms, including for prospective revenue generating ideas and projects
  • Work closely with the Editor, BDM, Deputy Editor and Senior Content Producer to ensure budgets and production requirements are clearly understood - and met - for the main book, supplements, special projects, advertising, promotions – for all new and existing business opportunities – across all platforms
  • Monitor all spending
  • Regular reconciliation of order forms and invoices as supplied by departmental heads
  • Liaise with the Finance Director, Accounts, freelancers and photographers concerning costs
  • Attend relevant events
  • Provide live social media coverage from events
  • Feed all leads/tips – commercial opportunities - through to the BDM
  • Produce 3 pieces of online content per week
  • Mentor and manage junior team members and interns
